MAY 5, 2022

May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, girls, Two Spirits, and relatives.

IllumiNative explains, “National Week of Action for MMIW was created in 2017 in response to families’ demands for justice for our missing and murdered Native relatives. Our #MMIP advocacy cannot end with awareness and must be accompanied by action.

Please support and follow Native organizations who are on-the-ground, doing this work year-round providing resources and tangible support for Native families most impacted by the ongoing MMIP crisis.

These organizations are calling for justice and to protect Native peoples from systemic barriers and violence. Turning grief into action, these Native organizations call upon federal, state, tribal, local, and international policymakers to address MMIP root causes as well as individual cases.”
