The Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum will open late at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 21.
Join Us for a pop-up poetry-making lab with San Diego’s 2023-2024 Poet Laureate, Jason Magabo Perez.
Jason Magabo Perez, Ph.D., will lead three creative writing labs in the Hostile Terrain 94 exhibition. These writing labs are included with general admission, and visitors are invited to drop-in at any point during the labs to participate. All are welcome!
Visitors will engage with the exhibit through the creative process of writing poetry and explore poetry-making techniques like ekphrasis, cut-up, documentary, and collage. Jason blends poetry with other art forms such as performance art and oral history to explore themes of colonialism, solidarity, migration, and more. This program is part of San Diego Poetry Futures 2024, a community engagement project led by Jason to explore poetry as a form of intergenerational community empowerment.
Three separate writing labs will be offered on Tuesdays in November, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Copies of Jason's 2024 book, I ask about what falls away, will be on sale during the writing labs for $12 for members, $15 for non-members.
